The Federal Electorate of New England is located in Northern New South Wales, encompassing an area of 59,344 square kilometres, stretching from south of Nundle near Tamworth, north to the Queensland border.  It includes large portions of the North West Slopes and Plains and the Northern Tablelands, the largest highland area in Australia.

Cities and towns within the Electorate include Armidale, Ashford, Attunga, Barraba, Bendemeer, Ben Lomond, Black Mountain, Bonshaw, Breeza, Bundarra, Carroll, Curlewis, Currabubula, Deepwater, Delungra, Drake, Dungowan, Duri, Ebor, Elsmore, Emmaville, Gilgai, Glencoe, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Guyra, Hillgrove, Inverell, Kingstown, Legume, Liston, Llangothlin, Manilla, Niangala, Nowendoc, Moonbi, Mullaley, Nundle, Piallamore, Quirindi, Rangers Valley, Somerton, Spring Ridge, Tamworth, Tenterfield, Tingha, Torrington, Uralla, Urbenville, Walcha, Weabonga, Werris Creek, Woolomin, Yarrowitch, Yarrowyck, Yetman and most areas between these localities.

The New England Electorate is a very diverse region producing a broad range of goods and services.  Primary production activities include the growing of grains, beef, lamb, pork, wool, dairying, fruit and vegetables, poultry, eggs, various mining activities, timber production, viticulture and aquaculture.

The are numerous important secondary manufacturing and production facilities across the Electorate producing goods for shipment to domestic and international markets.

There are a diverse range of business activities across the electorate ranging from small, single person enterprises to large multi-national corporations.

The towns and cities throughout the New England region have an excellent range of modern services, including first class health, education, sporting and recreational facilities, offering an outstanding lifestyle for its residents.  The University of New England at Armidale is widely known across Australia and beyond as a key centre of advanced education, promoting excellence of achievement amongst the many thousands of students undertaking tertiary studies.  Each year there are numerous cultural and sporting activities conducted throughout the region and a strong and justifiably proud sense of community spirit exists across the Electorate.
